Yesterday, 27 Deerfield baseball players reported for spring training at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. Unfortunately, the team equipment bag and practice baseballs experienced flight delays and did not make it to Florida. The setback did not derail the team from taking to the field with enthusiasm and purpose. As luck would have it, the New York Yankees were in town and were generous to share some baseballs with the team and IMG Academy loaned the Big Green some batting helmets and the team was on its way to its first Florida practice. Many thanks to both the Yankees and IMG for the coming to our equipment rescue!
The team moved briskly through two sessions of high repetition drills, hitting, and defensive work. Today presents a second day of double session workouts. On Monday, March 20th, the Big Green open their exhibition season against Trinity Christian School (FL), a perennial Florida high school championship contender. Senior Will Suter will be starting on the mound tomorrow. Stay tuned for more updates!
