Congratulations to our first spring 2019 Athletes of the Week!
Girls JV Lacrosse: Olivia Geraci ’19
Our athlete of the week for JV lacrosse is Olivia Geraci. She played fierce defense in transition and in front of the net during our scrimmage last Saturday. As a senior, she has already been a great leader for our team in the opening days, helping with drills and keeping energy high. Thanks for all of your work so far, Olivia!
Girls Rowing: Daisy Dundas ’21
After spending last summer rowing competitively, Daisy started her second year of rowing at whole new level compared to the previous year. Daisy returned stronger, more fit, more skilled, and ready to make her mark. She is clearly shooting for the stars, but has fun with her work and teammates. Daisy influences the team with a perfect combination of lightheartedness and seriousness of purpose. We look forward to watching Daisy and the team progress this year, and are very excited about what the future holds. Thank you, Daisy, and Go Big Green!
Girls Varsity Tennis: Sophia Genender ’20
Sophia had an epic battle with her opponent when the team faced off with Groton on Saturday. Every point was hotly contested and Sophia came out on top. Both players were hitting with immense pace and technique. Sophia kept cool under pressure to outlast and outplay her singles opponent. This was a fantastic example of winning in the mental game. Great work, Sophia!
Girls Varsity Lacrosse: Margaret Williams ’19
This week’s athlete of the week is Margaret Williams. Margaret has selflessly taken on the challenge of embracing a new position this year, and she is excelling in her new role. Over the course of the brief start of our season, we have asked Margaret to play nearly every position on the field, and she has risen to this challenge with confidence and full commitment. Her leadership and team-first attitude have set an outstanding example for her teammates.
Varsity Softball: Grace Mazur ’20
Softball’s athlete of the week is Grace Mazur. Grace caught a great game on Saturday against Miss Porter’s. She also had a couple of clutch hits and did a great job on the base path. Grace’s upbeat demeanor and team first attitude contribute to her strong start this season.
Boys JV Lacrosse: Derek Zhang ’22
Derek had a great week for the JV lacrosse squad. He was tenacious on the ride causing a host of turnovers in the middle of the field. On Saturday, Derek tallied 3 goals and an assist against Westminster. Derek is a great play maker and distributor behind the goal. He plays the game with passion and a huge heart–it is obvious that he loves competing!
Boys Varsity Rowing: Owen Louis ‘19
Early in the season, Owen has exhibited exceptional leadership both in doing all the little things right while also demonstrating great work ethic and positive competitiveness.
Girls Varsity Water Polo: Sophie Opler ‘19
A wily player, Sophie has defended the vital area in front of the goal well in the team’s first three games. Whether in helping to shut down a fast break or matching up against a skilled 2-meter shooter, she has ably handled each situation. She leads by example.
Varsity Baseball: Davis Cook ’21
Davis’ hard work throughout the season paid off in a big way in his first at bat of the year against Cushing. Davis came into the game in the 4th inning to pinch hit and on a 1-2 count hit a double down the left field line that scored a run. Deerfield went on to win the game 10-4. Davis’ steady practice habits and work ethic have been stellar throughout the season and he is expected to see more at bats the rest of the way.
JV Baseball: Jack de Bruyn Kops ’21
The JV baseball Athlete of the Week is Jack de Bruyn Kops. Jack has had a great start to the season and in one of our first practices of the season he went out of his way to help a less experienced teammate get his bearings. For his commitment to helping others, Jack is our first AOTW!
