Hockey Players Compete for Gold at National Championships

Senior girls varsity hockey players, Mary Edmonds and Deirdre Mullowney along with their Boston Jr. Eagles hockey teammates are competing for gold today at the USA Hockey 2019 National Championships in Irvine, CA.

The five-day tournament culminates today with the division championship games.

Mary and Deirdre will face-off against the Shattuck St. Mary’s team in the Tier I U19 championship game. They advanced to the finals after defeating the Chicago Mission 3-2 in OT yesterday evening. So far in the tournament, the Boston Jr. Eagles have been perfect, defeating Culver Academy, NJ Colonials, Detroit Honeybaked, and Rochester Youth Hockey. The team has already tallied 20 goals in five tournament games while only conceding six.

It was a GREEN affair this week in California for the National Championships. Several members of the Big Green community traveled to the West Coast last week for the championship tournament.  Competing players included: Christina Halloran ’20, Sara Ito-Bagshaw ’22, Lisa Ito-Bagshaw ‘21, Kelly Howe ’22 and Kami Meier ’22. In addition, the girls were supported by Coach Fernandez and athletic director Mr. Howe.

Christina Halloran and her Mid-Fairfield Stars U19 teammates were in the same bracket, but did not cross-over to compete against the familiar faces of Mary and Deidre. In three games, Christina registered a goal, while posting a 1-2 record at the championship tournament.

Also competing for the Mid-Fairfield Stars were sisters Sara and Lisa Ito-Bagshaw in the Tier 1 U16 division. And joining them in the U16 division was teammate Kelly Howe ’22 along with her CT Polar Bear team. Kami Meier and her team the North Shore Vipers competed in the Tier I U14 division at the tournament and advanced to the playoff portion of the tournament.

Congratulations to all on competing at this year’s National Championships!
