With spring teams approaching the mid-way point in their seasons’ and the beginning of the 2018 Spring Family Weekend underway, the Deerfield Athletics department welcomes all students’ families to campus. Today and tomorrow, we will host eleven home contests and six teams will travel to compete at away contests.
Deerfield teams enter this weekend boasting an impressive 22-4-1 record over the past week of play. A great achievement by our students, coaches and all of the support staff!
The JV baseball team kicks-off the home contests this afternoon at 4:30pm against neighboring NMH. On Wednesday, the JV baseball team earned a home win against visiting Cushing by a score of 4-3.
Next up, the varsity track & field team will host 17 visiting schools for the annual Hunt Relays which are set to start at 12:00pm. Last weekend, the Big Green hosted a tri-meet against Andover and Taft. The boys squad finished second and girls finished third.
At 1:00pm, varsity baseball will begin a double header against league newcomer Providence Country Day. The team is coming off a huge road win, where they knocked off the defending league champions Worcester Academy by a score of 6-2. With Wednesday’s win, the team extend their league record to 3-0.
The varsity golf team will play Taft in a head-to-head matchup at Crumpin Fox Country Club at 2:00pm. The team will look to extend their 5-0 unbeaten streak.
On campus at 2:00pm, the boys JV and varsity tennis teams will face-off against Andover. The boys JV squad will look to get back in the win column after a close Wednesday loss 3-4 to Eaglebrook. Boys varsity will look to add another win to their record after they swept Loomis 7-0 on Wednesday.
In the pool, girls varsity water polo will host Andover at 2:00pm. The team is off to a great start this season, posting a 4-2 record and are on a two-game winning streak.
At 3:00pm, girls JV and varsity lacrosse will take on Taft. Both teams are coming off Wednesday wins against NMH. Currently, the Big Green JV team is 2-0-1 and the varsity squad is 3-2-0, and on a three-game winning streak.
The boys lacrosse teams will conclude the Family Weekend home games with a 4:00pm start time vs. Taft. The boys JV lacrosse offense got rolling against Westminster on April 7th and they have not looked back since, extending their winning campaign to four-games. Boys varsity lacrosse will also look to add to their four-game winning streak.
Six Deerfield teams will compete on the road tomorrow. At 2:00pm, the girls JV and varsity tennis teams will take the short to trek to Easthampton to play Williston Northampton at 2:00pm. The girls JV and varsity teams will both look to add another win to the win column after they both defeated Suffield on Wednesday.
At 2:30pm, the defending New England Interscholastic Rowing Association champion’s girls varsity rowing team will race in their first event of the season. They will compete against St. Mark’s, Greenwich and Newton Country Day. The boys varsity rowing team will also look to defend their NEIRA and US Youth Rowing National title this season. They will begin their quest on Saturday at 3:40pm against Brooks and St. Mark’s.
Varsity softball will travel to Taft to go head-to-head with the Rhinos at 2:30pm. The Big Green squad will enter tomorrow’s league game with a 3-0 overall record.
And, JV golf will travel to Taft to compete in a tri-match with Taft and Salisbury at 3:00pm. The team won their only match so far this season against Eaglebrook.
