Soccer (Boys): Junior B vs. Vermont Academy (11/5/22 2:30 PM)

Event Details

The boys junior B footballers suffered their first loss of the season, falling 3-0 to the Vermont Academy JV team on an unseasonably warm and windy Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the team’s record now stands at 10-1 with one game remaining. It was clear from the outset of the game that Deerfield were overmatched physically, but that didn’t stop them from playing their game and creating a few scoring opportunities. VA began controlling the run of play early, however, and scored in the 8th minute to grab a 1-0 lead. Despite being unaccustomed to playing from behind, Deerfield nevertheless gave a great effort, but were unable to create many chances against a bigger, faster, and more physical team. VA scored again in the 26th minute to take a 2-0 lead and that was the margin at half-time. In the 2nd half, Deerfield didn’t give up and continued to try and close the deficit. In the 54th minute, VA were awarded a questionable penalty kick, which was turned away by keeper Brendan Butz ’23 to give Deerfield some hope. Shortly thereafter, an error by the VA keeper nearly allowed Deerfield to cut the deficit in half, but he was able to save the ball off the line just in time. In the 64th minute, VA were gifted another penalty kick to increase the lead to 3-0 and effectively put the game away. Quad squad will end the season on November 9th with a 3 pm match on the road against Cushing Academy.
