Soccer, Boys: Junior A ties Loomis

Event Details

Boys Junior A Soccer remained undefeated on the season, battling Loomis Chaffee to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday afternoon in Windsor, Connecticut. A defensive miscue early in the game put Deerfield behind, but the team’s energy never flagged, not even when forward Peter Kurto had his goal reversed by an offsides call. Junior Will Schoelkopf, who set the sidelines buzzing with a beautiful near-miss in the first half, tied the score in the final three minutes when he powered the ball straight through a crowded penalty area. With two of the team’s defensive backs sitting out with injuries, Athlete of the Week Alex Strait played all 80 minutes and helped limit Loomis to three shots on goal. Midfielders Will Yang and Gale Gai hustled hard to keep DA on offense, and first-year back Jamie Weymouth took a big step forward. The team looks forward to a rematch with Loomis at home on November 6 and heads to Cardigan Mountain School on Saturday.
