Deerfield reserve field hockey opened its 2019 season on the road at the Hampshire Regional School. The team took to the field with great energy and enthusiasm. The field was fast and the action moved pretty quickly from end to end. The Big Green had a few breakaways early in the first half, but couldn’t get a shot off. Hampshire gained momentum and answered back with a goal with 10 minutes left in the half. Deerfield regrouped at half time and came out with renewed energy and better passing combinations in the second half. Play continued with the two teams evenly matched until Deerfield scored after a flurry of shots. After a few more attempts to score by both teams, the game ended in a hard-fought tie. The Big Green travels to take on local rival Amherst on Monday.
