Boys Junior A Soccer defeated Loomis Chaffee in a 1-0 victory at home on Wednesday afternoon in Deerfield’s penultimate game of the season. The contest was a rematch of a draw between the schools back in December. In that game forward Peter Kurto had a goal reversed on a disputed offsides call. Kurto went into today’s game looking to right that wrong and, thanks to an excellent downfield pass by midfielder Will Shoelkopf and his own tenacious battle to the ball against a Loomis back, he scored the winning goal in just the ninth minute of the game. The rest of the match was won by Deerfield’s defense. Defensive back Tom Park was the standout player of the game with several crucial steals, stops, and clears. Stopper Taeeon Kong and Sweeper Alex Strait put in their typical unflappable performances. And keeper Bob Zhang made several game-saving saves in Loomis’s relentless attacks in the second half. Deerfield now turns its attention to the order of the week: beating Choate on Saturday.
