Deerfield reserve field hockey took on Amherst on a beautiful fall afternoon. The game saw lots of action in the midfield with both teams playing intensively and trying to create scoring opportunities. Deerfield earned a number of corners, but could not capitalize. The Amherst goalie made save after save to prevent Deerfield from scoring. After a scoreless half, Mary Black Zeron ’21, made a beautiful cut to the weak side post and was in the perfect spot to receive a beautiful cross pass from Lauren Stenger ’23 to score her first goal of the season. Not long after that, Lauren Stenger scored her own goal, putting DA ahead 2-0. Deerfield kept up the pressure and ended up earning 14 corners in the game, but Amherst’s defense held strong to prevent us from capitalizing on those corners. Deerfield didn’t give up, however, and Coco de Vink ’22 scored off a pass from Cam Howe ’23 to make the final tally 3-0. This team keeps improving with each new contest. Next up for The Big Green is Hampshire at home on Wednesday.
