Soccer, Boys: Junior A loses to NMH

Event Details

Deerfield Academy Junior A soccer lost a challenging game on Wednesday afternoon to Northfield Mount Herman, 0 – 1. The squad jumped on the attack, with a short tap from Elliot Flagg ’20 to Eric Wang ’21, who sent a cross to forward Gale Gai ’22. Gale got a foot on it, but the ball went wide. Crawford Rice ’21 stopped a quick strike from the NMH counterattack, sending the ball wide. Ben King ’22 and Alex Strait ’20 held the backline against the speedy NMH forwards, clearing balls up and out of the DA backfield. A back and forth game was interrupted by an NMH free kick, the forward sending a ball over the DA wall for the only goal of the match. Deerfield came back reenergized, with strong attempts from Sam Lauer ’20 and Jared Faux ’20 just wide right of the net. Arthur Yao ’20 pushed the ball up field, taking his own attempt from the top right of the NMH box. After halftime, Teddy Donahue ‘21 began the period with a long lefty shot from way outside the goalie box, missing the net just barely to the right. NMH returned with their own long bomb, just barely saved by a diving Rice. Further attempts from Wang and Will Schoelkopf ’21 led to ricochets almost converted by Lauer, Noah Depp ’21, and Tomás Cushman ’22, but none found the net before time was called. All in all, a difficult match for the Junior A squad.
