Field Hockey: Reserve defeats Hampshire Regional

Event Details

The Reserve Field Hockey team came out with intensity and quick passes right from the opening whistle against Hampshire.  With one game under their belts, this team played with more conviction and a deliberate decision making.  You could hear the players communicating to each other whether on passes up field or on defensive marking.

The first half saw Bri Felice ’21 score unassisted with 16:18 left in the half. Less than a minute later, Sophia Hamlen ’22 scored off a beautiful pass from Lisa Ito-Bagshaw ’21. Hampshire came back with some offensive momentum, but once again, Sophia Hamlen ’21 scored off of a pass from Bri Felice ’21 to make it 3-0 going into half-time.

After a half-time talk about spreading out and being more deliberate about flat and through passes, Deerfield came out strong at the start of the 2nd half with some wonderful offensive opportunities, but the Hampshire goal keeper made some amazing saves.  Opportunity knocked, however, at 13:37 when Deerfield was awarded a penalty corner.  Sara Ito-Bagshaw ’22 scored her first goal of the season by tipping in a shot from Lauren Stenger ’22 to make it 4-0.

The intensity of the game continued with some strong play on both sides; strong defensive play from Elsa Marrian ’21, Kailen Coelho ’20 and Lily Zeng ’22 helped keep Hampshire scoreless.  Gabriella Hu ’21 recorded her first shut out in goal during game in the cage for The Big Green. Up next, Suffield at home on Saturday September 29th.
