Squash, Girls: Varsity defeats St. Paul’s

Event Details

Playing in front of a large crowd in the team’s first home match of 2018, a few jitters accompanied the DA players onto the courts as they took on the St. Paul’s Pelicans.  In the first round of play, #6 Soo-Min Lee lost a tight one in five games.  Even though she valiantly rallied against five match points, she fell in the fifth game 11-9.  #4 Griffin Dewey won her first game in overtime 12-10 before finding her groove and winning the next two 11-3, 11-2.  And while it took #2 Harbour Woodward a couple games to find her usual poise, she did a great job of focusing and taking care of business by the end, winning 3-1.  In round two, #7 Emily Henderson won her first two games soundly and did a stellar job of coming from behind and fighting off a couple game points to win her third 12-10.  #5 Sasha Hinckley started off strong, winning her first two games easily before dropping her third 12-10.  Then, bearing down again, she played smart and won her fourth game 11-5.   #3 Isabella Rolfe started off blazing, winning her first game 11-3 and leading her second 8-2 before her opponent revved up, taking the second game into overtime.  But Isabella kept her cool and won the second 14-12 and the third 13-11.  #1 Ashley Manning took some time to find her mojo, too.  While her first game went into overtime 13-11, she dominated in the next two, winning 11-2, 11-2.  The final match score:  DA 6, St. Paul’s 1.
