On Wednesday, October 18th, the boys junior B soccer team traveled to South Hadley to face the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts school’s coed, varsity squad. The 4:30 start provided a beautiful, early fall afternoon for the match. Deerfield got on the board early, with two quick goals from Sam Laur ’20 in the 8th minute and Rob Sawyers ’21, after a nice individual effort, in the 14th minute. Just when it looked like Deerfield was going to run away with the match, PVPA struck back quickly with a goal in the 17th minute to cut the deficit to 1. In the 25th minute, PVPA scored again and the match was tied 2-2 at half time. After giving up a 2-0 lead, Deerfield was stunned in the 41st minute with PVPA’s third goal and found themselves trailing for the first time. Luckily, Kye Liew ’18 was up to the task and put home 2 late goals, in the 59th and 68th minutes, to enable Deerfield to pull out the 4-3 victory. With the win, the team moves to 5-1 on the season and will take on Eaglebrook’s JV2 team at home on October 21st for Family Weekend.
