On Wednesday, October 11th, the boys junior B soccer team hosted the Bement School’s varsity squad on the lower fields. The weather finally felt more like fall and the temperature was comfortable for a 3 pm start. The action was fast and furious from the opening whistle, with Rob Sawyers ’21 having a good opportunity in the first minute and first-time keeper Willy Conzelman ’21 making several good saves early. Sweeper Arthur Yao ’20 put Deerfield ahead 1-0 with a beautiful header off of a corner kick in the 5th minute. Shane McCarthy ’21 hit the post in the 6th minute and both teams settled down after that. In the 20th minute, Bement broke through Deerfield’s back line and nailed a ground ball off the post to tie the score at 1 at the half. In the 2nd half, Deerfield controlled the run of play for the most part, but was unable to regain the lead until the 52nd minute with a Nic Labadan ’18 goal. From there, Deerfield added two late goals by Inthat Boonpongmanee ’19 and Sam Laur ’20 for the final margin of 4-1. Deerfield’s boys junior B soccer team ran their season record to 4-0 and will return to action on 10/14 with a game on the road at Eaglebrook.
