Boys Varsity Soccer Earns First Win of the Season

On a beautiful mid-September day, the boys varsity soccer team came out hungry for their first win of the season. After back and forth action for the first fifteen minutes of the game, the big green found the first goal of the match. A give and go between Young Gun Lee ’19 and Cabrel Happi ’18 on the left flank put Lee through the Salisbury back-line. Lee then took a hard driven shot across the face of the goal where a rebound found Nolan Zusi ’19 who made no mistake finishing the play and giving the home side an early 1-0 lead. Deerfield controlled the majority of play for the remainder of the half and with time winding down Alonso Fernandez ’20, found himself on a breakaway. Fernandez managed to put the ball past the keeper but could not beat the post! DA entered the half with a one-goal lead.

The visitors entered the half energized and managed to find the equalizer just under four minutes in when a free kick from just outside the 18 yard-box hit the cross bar and found its way into the back of the net. The goal did not get the big green down as they responded quickly with a goal of their own when a long throw from Kevin Hendrick found the head of Captain Alex Platt ’18 who buried his first goal of the year. After regaining the lead, DA would not look back as they added two more goals before time expired. Both Zusi and Platt would each add one more to finish with two goals apiece and guide Deerfield to a 4-1 win at home.

The boys varsity soccer team will take on Suffield at home on Wednesday September 20th at 3:15 PM.
