Squash, Boys: Reserve loses to Choate

Event Details

The boys in green were mowed down by a talented and deep Choate squad today. We fought gamely across the board, but flashes of brilliance were unable to carry anyone to victory.

We shared the space with the JV team, sending Carl out as the lone thirds representative to start. Schlager, a rare thirds player who hits harder than Carl, blitzed him in the first game and carried the hot streak into the second. Carl was ready for him in the third game, however, but the resulting laser show ended just in Choate’s favor. Gideon took over the court and similarly took a game to find his form, eventually getting on the scoreboard before going down in four.

Across the way, Justin went down in 3, failing to gain traction after a close second game. On the end court, Nathan recovered nicely after a nightmare first game, but was unable to get over the hump. Avery took a marathon first game, but his opponent’s adjustments carried him to victory. Christian played a nice match at #3, but may have psyched himself out as time wore on. He took a 2-1 lead, but fell in five.

All that remained was Taylor, whose reach and quickness carried him to victory in the first two games. The third went to overtime, and the fourth and fifth came right down to the wire. Unfortunately, despite his best effort of the year, Taylor walked off the court with a loss.

The results of the exhibition crew are better left to the imagination. As we tally moral victories, a small one goes to Ian for taking a game off his opponent.

Taft comes to town this Saturday (likely a snowy one), and we play Suffield’s JV team a week from today. We’ll nonetheless put our best foot forward, and hope to return to the win column sometime soon.
