Thirty-two students joined Mr. Trelease and Ms. Hodge on a trip to the Yale Art Gallery yesterday as an engaging and inspiring weekend activity. Everyone toured the exhibition organized by the artist Mickalane Thomas, which featured a selection of early American portraits of Black women, men, and children—from miniatures and daguerreotypes to silhouettes on paper and engravings in books. Students also explored the permanent collection of the YUAG and Yale’s campus. Another highlight was being welcomed by several Deerfield alumni, including Lily Lin ’23, Will Sussman ’23, Elle Stearns ’23, Stephen Morris ’23, Claire Cummings ’21, and Lukas Trelease ’20!
