Mother Bear and Cubs Spotted on Campus

This past weekend, a mama bear and her two cubs were spotted on campus in the area of the Chen Center parking lot. If you see them, please be careful and do not approach them.

If you do encounter a bear, alter your route or back away slowly, preferably in the direction you came. Walk, do not run, and keep your eye on the bear so you can see how it reacts. In most cases, the bear will flee, but mother bears are very protective of their young; again, do not approach them, and never place yourself between a mother bear and her cub(s). If the bear walks toward you, act boldly and yell.

And if you do see a bear on campus, please contact Security ASAP at 413-772-9880.

Thank you, and stay safe!
