Summer CSGC Grant Update: Preparing The Next Generation

Education has been greatly affected by the pandemic with many schools going virtual in the past year. With Covid-19 in March 2020, 150 countries fully closed their schools and more than 1 billion children worldwide are at risk of falling behind. Even before the pandemic, education has been a big problem as many students are not exposed to enough opportunities. My goal for this project is to provide a learning experience for kids and provide them with useful computer science skills that will help them in the future.

This summer I plan on leading a Computer Science class online to help fill the gap in education. According to the US News, “Currently, only about a quarter of schools teach programming. Yet there will be three jobs available for every 2016 college graduate with a computer science degree”(US News 2016). With the rise of technology, I believe that computer science will become increasingly important as a skill to have and will give them more opportunities. I hope that my class will provide them with these essential skills.

As of right now, I have completed the basic curriculum of the course and I am planning to start the course in the next two weeks. We will be meeting over Zoom for lessons and using online stimulations to app their skills.
