Only Days Left to Apply to the Karinne Heise Nature Writing Award

The English Department established a Nature Writing Award to honor the legacy of English teacher Karinne Heise and her service to the department and to the Academy. During her 30-year career, Karinne not only shared her love of the natural world in such courses as Nature Writing and American Nature, but she also introduced generations of Deerfield students at all grade levels to those writers who chose nature as their muse. This award seeks both to celebrate Karinne’s love of nature and to keep alive her tradition of encouraging Deerfield students to engage with and write about the natural world.

Entries must be received by May 5. To enter, students should submit one piece of writing in any genre that expresses a personal experience or engagement with nature. Please send your piece to nature.writing.contest@gmail.com.
