A correction: Dr. Davis will be in Room 227, (not Room “27”) MSB tomorrow, Wednesday, April 21, from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. Here is the original message from Dr. Austin, which was sent to all students on Monday, April 12. It is being shared again as a reminder of Drs. Davis’ and Relin’s availability this week.
* * *
I know that many of you may be following the tragic police shooting last night in Minnesota of Daunte Wright and the ensuing investigation by authorities there, as well as the ongoing trial of Derek Chauvin, a trial that has included graphic and disturbing testimony and video. Each of us will experience these events in a different way, and I wanted to outline the support available to students.
First, our counseling staff is always available to you, and you should not hesitate to reach out, especially if you are feeling distress or sadness, but also if you simply wish to connect. I know they are eager to offer their support. In addition, Drs. Davis and Relin will welcome students each Wednesday evening for an opportunity to talk and listen. They’ll be in the Garonzik from 6:30 – 7:30 pm, and all students are welcome.
We recognize the potential impact these events may have on our Black students specifically, and we have set aside the afternoon of Wednesday the 21st for Black students to gather and to meet with Dr. Davis when he’s here from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. He’ll be in MSB 27 (227) and is eager to offer connection and support. There will be further opportunities for conversation as well, so please stay tuned for details.
