Kate ’25 strengthens bonds built on trust, encouragement, and empathy while encouraging self expression through art.
This summer was my most meaningful one yet at the Southampton Fresh Air Home because there were so many returning campers who I’ve developed close bonds with over the past three summers. I loved doing arts and crafts with them while listening to fun music in the background. I felt that they were able to express themselves through art and that it provided them with a good pause in their day.
My experiences this summer at the camp have taught me the impact of making others feel respected and understood. I love reuniting with the campers each summer and learning new things about their experiences and personalities each time. SFAH has taught me the importance of building relationships founded on trust, encouragement, and empathy. I learned the importance of art therapy, especially with younger kids, and how it provides an outlet for self-expression.
Last night was the prom which marks the end of the camp session. It was a fun night celebrating and dancing with all the kids, but it was also sad to say goodbye.
