Ellie Shilling ‘21, reflects on the impact of her service project.

This summer 25 students were accepted in the CSGC grants program. These grants are funded due to the generous support of the Cost, Earle/Mendillo and Workman families, who established endowment funds to support the community and public service endeavors of future generations of Deerfield students. For more information on these grants please visit: https://deerfield.edu/csgc/grants

After creating this project and delivering the packages to Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) in Greenfield early this summer, I have had a lot of time to reflect on the impact of the craft kits. Not only did these kits give the kids something to do while stuck at home, but also helped BBBS with their efforts to engage the families involved in the program.

I am so glad that I was able to help out with the organization’s work during the COVID-19 pandemic, and hope that I can continue to stay engaged despite on campus programming being cancelled.
