Spring teams are off and running! Lacrosse, baseball, softball, girls water polo and ultimate have all begun their spring 2024 season campaigns with golf, rowing and track & field set to kick-off their contests within the next week.
Big Green teams are still waiting for the spring weather and temperatures to return to the Valley, but this is not slowing down their early season preparation and practices.
Highlights from Saturday’s opening contests include:
- Varsity baseball split a doubleheader with visiting Belmont Hill, 1-1. The Big Green won the first game 4-3 with a walk-off homerun to end the game.
- Girls varsity lacrosse rallied from an early deficit on the road at Dexter-Southfield in their season opening contest, but fell short at the final whistle, 11-15.
- Girls varsity water polo opened their season with a commanding win on the road at Exeter, 15-6.
- Boys varsity lacrosse battled back-and-forth with visiting Brunswick School for all four quarters plus through double overtime. The Big Green scored the game tying goal with 4.7 seconds remaining in regulation play to level the score 10-10 and send the game into overtime. The Bruins bested the Big Green in the second overtime with the final score, 11-10.
- Girls varsity tennis opened their season with a 7-0 win on the road at Pomfret.
