On Wednesday, February 16, the boys and girls Alpine Ski teams competed in the New England Prep School Class A Alpine Ski Championships at Pats Peak, NH. The morning events saw the girls battle the Slalom course while the boys cruised down a tight Giant Slalom course. Lauren Stobierski ’14 was crowned New England Champion in the Slalom. She was followed by a third place finish from Annika Trapness ’13 and Marly Morgus ’12 rounded out the team scoring in 14th place. On the boys Giant Slalom course, Jack Stobierski ’12 dominated the field, winning the race by over two seconds. Captain Keo Brown ’11 finished fourth followed by Oliver Hopkinson ’12 and Reed Horton ’14 (15th and 19th places).
In the afternoon Jack Stobierski again paced the boys team, winning by almost four seconds. Oliver Hopkinson finished eighth and Peter Stobierski ’14, overcoming a rough morning race, completed the team scoring by finishing in tenth place. The girls concluded the day on a challenging Giant Slalom course. Here Beth Lawless ’12 powered her way to a second place finish. Lauren Stobierski cruised into seventh place followed by Annika Trapness in eighth. Teammates Marly Morgus (14th) and Ashley Cooper ’14 (18th) rounded out the girls team in the GS.
As a team both the girls and boys teams won their respective Slalom and Giant Slalom races. So at the end of a full day of ski racing, the boys were first in a field of 16 teams while the girls finished tops in a field of 11 teams. New England Champions!
