The Big Green hockey team has already faced-off against Avon two times this season; in December the Big Green defeated the Winged Beavers 4-1 on home ice. In their second meeting of the season, Avon edged the Big Green 2-1 on their home ice earlier this month.
To close out the regular season, boys varsity hockey posted a three-game undefeated streak, defeating Exeter 1-0 at home and earned come-from-behind OT wins at Kent (4-4 OT) and Westminster (2-2 OT). Saturday’s tie at Westminster was the team’s eighth overtime game of the regular season. Heading into the playoffs, the team’s season posted a 14-8-3 season record, which marks the best season record since their 2007-08 campaign when the team posted 16 regular season wins and the team was ranked #6 in the West Division in the final Division I standings.
The Big Green girls varsity basketball team enters the post-season with a 10-10-0 season record, matching their record in 2016-17 and return to post-season action for the first time since their 2008-09 campaign. This season, the girls varsity basketball team advanced to the Eight Schools Girls Basketball Tournament semifinals and were finalists in the Deerfield Girls Basketball Holiday Tournament in December.
The Big Green and Nobles have not yet tipped off this season, but they share three common opponents; Loomis, Worcester, and New Hampton. Both Deerfield and Nobles fell to the #1 seeded AA Division Worcester Academy this season while, Nobles edged both Loomis and New Hampton and the Big Green fell to both sides.
