On Wednesday, the girls varsity soccer team traveled to Taft for their second road game of the season. The Big Green did not waste any time and inked the scoresheet only three minutes into the game when Magda Curylo ’26 played a through ball to Eleanor DuPont ‘26 who drove the flank and served a ball into the 18 yard box past the Taft goalkeeper. Olivia Austen ‘27 raced her defender to the front post and buried the ball into the back of the net to put the Big Green up 1-0.
At the half, the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Big Green. As the second half ticked down, the Rhinos were throwing several players forward in hopes of gaining the equalizing goal, but Ellie Schiller ’25 intercepted all of the Rhino corner kicks in goal and the Big Green backline were disciplined and fended off any potential chances.
The Big Green return to action this Saturday, 9/28 at home against Pomfret. Kick off is set for 2pm.
At home in the Pioneer Valley, the varsity field hockey team welcomed Milton on Wednesday afternoon.
Milton jumped ahead to a one-goal lead in the opening quarter. The Big Green quickly leveled the score at the end of the first quarter, 1-1.
The Big Green gained the lead to start the second period with their second goal of the game. The Mustangs answered and leveled the score with their second goal of the game halfway through the third period.
The Doors registered their third goal of the game in the third quarter to regain the lead. Then, quickly doubled their lead in the third quarter on penalty stroke that Lily Oliver converted.
The Big Green registered two more goals in the final frame to extend their lead. Chloe Cleaves ’26 put the exclamation on the score sheet with her diving shot at the far post to notch the team’s final goal of the game.
With the victory, the Big Green improve their early season record to 3-1.
The varsity field hockey team will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Exeter.
