On Sunday, May 22, the girls varsity tennis team captured the Class A New England Preparatory Championship for the first time in program history.
The Big Green entered the championship as the #3 seed in the tournament. They faced off against #6 Hotchkiss in the opening quarterfinals match. The Big Green defeated Hotchkiss 6-0 to advance to the semifinal round. Click here for Coach Austin’s write up on the match.
In the semifinal round, the Big Green faced off against #2 Groton School. To open their season in April the Big Green fell in a close match to Groton, 4-5. The Big Green were not to be denied this time around and defeated Groton, 5-3 to clinch their spot in the championship match. In dramatic championship play fashion, the semi-final match came down to two tie-breakers, with Deerfield needing one to secure the victory. Daphne Gavros ’22 won her third set tie break to seal the victory and send the team to the championship match. At the time of the final point, Avery Brooker ’24 was also on court in a tie break match, leading her opponent.

Early Sunday morning the girls varsity tennis team traveled to Andover to face the #1 seed in the championship match. The Big Green rallied to defeat the Big Blue by a score of 5-2 to capture the Class A Girls Tennis New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Championship.

Moreover, the girls tennis team had several impressive accomplishments this season, to name a couple:
- Isha Rao ’22, career winning percentage of 97%: best (by a wide margin) in Academy History!
- Daphne Gavros ’22 was undefeated at singles during the regular season!
- Olivia Waterfall ’23/Natalia Sanders ’24 were undefeated at doubles during the regular season and playoffs!
- Every single player on the team started and won a match this season!
- Hunter Pulliam ’22 defeated a player who beat us a month ago to help seal the championship!
- This season, the team posted an overall record of 11-2!
