Girls Squash Wins New England Championship

In front of a large crowd in the Dewey Squash Center, the Deerfield girls varsity squash team won the 2011 New England Championship, ending Greenwich Academy’s 14-year winning streak. Every Deerfield player made it to the finals of her division. Every Greenwich Academy player made it to the finals, too, so to win the championship, four Deerfield players had to win their matches in the final round. The championship came down to the final match of the day. Deerfield’s three division finalists — Nina Kempner, Addie Fulton, and Charlotte Dewey — and three division champions — Hunter Sechrest, Tori Dewey, and Emily Jones — set the stage for a dramatic division 1 final that would decide the outcome of the team championship. In a thrilling five game match, Hallie Dewey won 8-11, 11-9, 13-15, 11-0, 18-16 to win her division 1 championship and to give the Deerfield team a one point edge to win the team championship.

Well done, girls!
