Football Rallies in the Second Half for Comeback Victory

The Big Green football team rallied to score 21 points in the second half to secure the 21-20 victory over Cheshire in the team’s final home game on Jim Smith Field.

Late in the game, quarterback Cole Geer ’25 connected with wide receiver Tristan Ward ’24 on a long pass to record the team’s third and go-ahead touchdown of the game. Stone Anderson ’23 converted the extra point to give the Big Green the 7-point lead.

Following the Big Green score, Cheshire got the ball back and drove the length of the field, converting two fourth downs, and scored a touchdown with seven seconds left in the game.  Cheshire decided to go for the two-point conversion. The Big Green defense stopped the Cats on their two-point play after the snap was fumbled and tackled the Cheshire quarterback in the backfield. Ultimately, securing the one-point victory for the Big Green.

Along with two receiving touchdowns, Ward also had an interception in the third quarter, his first of the year.  Linebacker James Fealy ‘24 forced and recovered a fumble on the first play of the fourth quarter.  Both turnovers led to Deerfield touchdowns.  Tight end Willem Thurber ’25 made multiple catches and scored the first touchdown of the game for Deerfield in the third quarter.

The Big Green finishes up their regular season at rival Choate Rosemary Hall this Saturday, November 12. Kickoff is slated for 12pm.
