Doors of the Week

Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!

Varsity Baseball – Fletcher Waterman ’24

Fletcher has had a tremendous first year Deerfield! He leads the team in RBI’s and is second on the team in hits, while throwing out 14 runners attempting to steal bases. This past Monday against Williston, Fletcher was 3-3 with a double, home run, and 5 RBI’s.

Girls JV Lacrosse – Eve Andon ’23 and Annabelle Brennan ’23

Eve Andon and Annabelle Brennan showed awesome leadership at the St. Paul’s game on Sunday and played their hearts out. We appreciate them!

Boys Varsity Tennis – Tom Molson ’24

Junior Tom Molson has earned the boys varsity tennis DOTW nomination. Tom played his best match of the year on Saturday, May 13 playing #2 singles at home against Exeter. Although he ultimately lost that match (despite saving five match points in the second set to force a deciding third set superbreaker), he showed grit, sportsmanship, determination, and a joy for competition that exemplifies what team tennis should be. Tom followed up that tough match with a win two days later at the #1 position against Suffield Academy.

Varsity Golf – Tucker Gongaware ’26

Tucker shot 37 in really difficult conditions to earn medalist on the day and helped us secure the win!

JV Baseball – Jackson Collins ’23 and Davey Mazur ’24

Jackson put down a key bunt to spark our rally. He always hustles, never complains, and is a great teammate. We are glad he came out for baseball during his senior spring! Davey played in his first game of the season this week and got on base all three times. He has been sidelined by injury all spring but worked hard to make it back in time for our last few games.

Boys Track and Field – Barack Mwesigwa ’24

The Door of the Week for Boys Track and Field is Barack Mwesigwa, who carried his team to a narrow victory on Saturday with personal best performances in the 300 Meter Hurdles, the High Jump, and the Pole Vault. Barack has been working hard all over the track and in a variety of field events this season, and was primed for a breakout performance at Exeter. He won the Pole Vault in a personal best 11′, and the High Jump in a 4 inch personal best 6′ 2″. Finally, he passed two opponents in the final 10 meters of the 300 Meter Hurdles to secure second place behind teammate Chandler Dicks. It was a timely and excellent performance, and Barack looks to build on that success in the NEPSTA championship meet this Saturday.

Varsity Softball – Anna Dyjach ’24

Anna is a silent leader with an amazing attitude. Anytime the team needs something she’s the first to volunteer. She hustles everywhere, is always helping clean up, constantly has a positive attitude, and supports all of her teammates.

Boys JV Tennis – Thomas Unkles ’25

Thomas is usually the first to arrive at practice and one of the last to leave. He’s shown significant improvement over the course of the season and I look forward to working with him again next season.

Girls Track and Field – Jennifer Luiru ’25

This athlete has come into her own. After trying a few different events, she found solid footing in the long and triple jump. She has worked hard to build up her strength and continuously works on her technique. Although she is not competing at New Englands this weekend, she is still at the long jump pits working on her form during practice for next year. She also signed up to come to New Englands and support her teammates. I am impressed by her thoughtfulness, perseverance, and finesse. For these reasons and many more, this week’s Girls’ Track and Field Door of the Week is Jennifer Luiru.

Ultimate Frisbee – Zhexuan Li ’23

Zhexuan picked up the game just this season, but he impresses us on a regular basis with his excellent cutting and movement as a receiver.  Zhexuan also has excellent field sense.  He is often open, using his long stride to get to the best receiving space.  As if this were not enough, Zhexuan has improved, impressively, his skills in throwing and catching.  Just as importantly, Zhexuan exudes positivity: he works to make the people around him better.  He plays a ton of points, and he is always willing to sub in or stay on the field to give a teammate the rest that they need.  We love having Zhexuan on our team!

Boys JV Lacrosse – Adaugo Nwaokoro ’24 and Penley Day ’25

The final DOTW for the Boy’s JV Lacrosse Team are our awesome managers, Adaugo Nwaokoro and Penley Day. They are hardworking conscientious individuals who make sure everything is ready for practices and games. Rain or shine…home or away they are organized, thorough and prepared, all with a great attitude and a smile. Thank you, Adaugo and Penley for another great year.

Theater Concentration

The theater co-curricular’s Door of the Week is the company of Little Women (listed below). As we head into performances next week, everyone has been working tirelessly to make the best show possible. We are beyond impressed with the work-ethic, kindness, and talent of our cast and crew. We couldn’t ask for a better group of students with whom to put on this production!
