Doors of the Week

Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!

Track & Field – Bianka Dusseault ’23

This athlete joined track and field just last year, but has already made a huge impact. She bounced around between events, but found her home in the throws with Coach Pitcher. Since then, she has worked hard on her form and strength. Just this weekend, she threw a javelin 80.9 feet to help Deerfield win the javelin relay. Her consistent efforts and friendly attitude around track are always a welcome sight. For these reasons and many more, this week’s Girls’ Track and Field door of the week goes to Bianka Dusseault.

Theater – Greta Steever ’24

Greta Steever is the theater co-curricular Door of the Week. Since day 1, Greta has come in prepared and ready to work. As Jo March, she has taken up the mantle of leading the show and memorizing countless lines with grace and focus. Her performance is moving, thoughtful, and delightful to watch! We are thrilled that the Deerfield community will soon be able to see her outstanding portrayal of one of the most iconic literary characters.

JV Girls Lacrosse – Georgia Ball ’25

Our DOTW is Georgia Ball. During our Bement clinic, Georgia showed great cheer, generosity of spirit, and true leadership. We were impressed and grateful!

JV Baseball – Jack Welch ’26

JV Baseball would like to nominate Jack Welch who pitched a great game against Eaglebrook on Saturday and added a clutch hit late in the game. Jack works hard every day and is willing to play any position in the field. He has been great for us all spring.

Music Concentration – Ben Wolfson ’24

Pianist Ben Wolfson ’24 wowed the Deerfield Board of Trustees last weekend with his stunningly beautiful solo performance of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 31 op. 110. He also took time out of his busy practice schedule to record a piece composed by his colleague Lauren Mitchell ’23. No matter what music is in front of Ben, he is consistently committed to pursuing the highest level of excellence and musical expression.

Varsity Baseball – Tom Spater ’23

Tom has had an outstanding senior year for the Deerfield Nine! He brings energy and positivity to practices and games every day – he is a fantastic teammate! This past Friday Tom was 2-4 with a single, double, rbi, walk, and a run scored in a league win over Cushing.

Boys JV Lacrosse – Sawyer Johnson ’25

Sawyer Johnson is the DOTW for the Boys Junior Varsity lacrosse team this week. Since the first day of the 2023 season back in March, Sawyer has brought his energy, positive attitude and a strong work ethic to each and every practice and game this season. His tireless effort and sense of teamwork keep him focused day in and day out. Congratulations to Sawyer!!

Boys Track & Field – Chandler Dicks ’23

This week’s Door of the Week for Boys Track & Field is Chandler Dicks, who set new personal bests in the 300 Hurdles (40.58 seconds, moving him into 5th place in school history) and the Long Jump (21′ 3″, moving him into 6th place in school history), to go along with a third win in the High Jump. Chandler has been a model of consistency in his approach to practice this season, in addition to being a warm, supportive teammate and a leader for younger athletes on the team. He has set himself up well for another big performance in the league championships, and deserves praise and recognition for his work.

Water Polo – Margaret Melnik ’24

Margaret Melnik demonstrated her defensive prowess this week in shadowing Hamden’s leading scorer and preventing the left-handed sharpshooter from playing a key role in her team’s offense.  Margaret’s relentless commitment made a significant difference in Deerfield’s win.

Women’s Varsity Lacrosse – 2023 Freshman Class

I’d like to nominate the freshmen, Lalwani Surpitski, Brady Wierl, Peyton Wierl, Keira Austen, Ilsa Borgen, Rose Manning, Eleanor duPont, Maisy Johnson, and Haley Hickman on the varsity lacrosse team as Doors of the Week for their spirit and positivity all season long.  They all add so much to the culture of the team and come to practice every day ready to learn and work hard.  This group is a pleasure to coach!

Go Big Green!
