Meet our first fall 2024 Doors of the Week!
Girls Varsity Cross-Country: Liesel Stich ’28 and Anneke Wittink ‘25
The girls’ cross country team door of the week is Liesel Stich. Liesel earned herself this title after putting on a great show for the girls’ team during her timed mile. She pushed herself all the way to the end while sprinting with a fellow boys’ XC teammate. Although she is new to the team, Liesel went above and beyond being one of only two girls who chose to do the timed mile. She is such a positive addition to the team, and we are so excited to see what she does this season!
We are nominating Anneke for being a funny, supportive, and spirited teammate. During core circles she is both a leader in demonstrating great commitment to the workout, while simultaneously connecting the group with icebreakers and creative questions.
Varsity Volleyball: Emerson Lewis ‘28
This week’s door of the week goes to Emerson Lewis ‘28. Emerson is one of the two new ninth graders on varsity volleyball this year. Despite joining a veteran team of 11 upper classmen and two underclassmen, Emerson has proved herself to be a true offensive threat. She can run the DA offense as a setter or put the ball away as a hitter. She will contribute heavily to the versatility of Deerfield volleyball. Along with her skills, Emerson has brought a cheerfulness that fits in perfectly with the other players on the team. We are excited to welcome her to the team this year.
Strength & Conditioning: Braswell Vachon ‘25 and Brayden Lahey ’25
Braswell Vachon and Brayden Lahey were ball people for the varsity boys soccer match on Wednesday and are nominated as Doors of the Week. These two students kept up with the play, represented our school very well, and went about their job with a smile and commitment we hope to see from every student assigned to these duties. It was a fun afternoon for soccer and these two helped make that happen!
Varsity Field Hockey: Peyton Wierl ’26
The Varsity FH DOTW is Peyton Wierl ’26. Peyton brings tremendous energy and competitiveness to the field and challenges herself and her teammates to get better in every drill. She plays with intensity, grit, and a positive spirt and she is a pleasure to coach. In our scrimmage against Brooks, Peyton earned multiple assists and created several offensive scoring opportunities. We look forward to her continued leadership and strong play throughout the fall!
Thirds Volleyball: Lucia Kinder ’28
The Door of the Week for Girls Thirds Volleyball is Lucia Kinder ’28. As a first-year student, Lucia has been a wonderful addition to the team, both in terms of her athletic ability and her attitude. She is an adept passer and a great player all around, always hustling to get the ball. Lucia comes to practice each day excited to play, and never wants the scrimmages to end. She clearly loves the game. Lucia is also a wonderful teammate to her peers. She is excited when they succeed and supportive when they mess up. We are so excited that Lucia decided to join the team this year and cannot wait to see what the season holds for her.
Girls JV Soccer: Cecy Yazwinski ’27
Cecy Yazwinski ’27 is frequently one of the first arrivals to practice each day and always arrives ready to go and ready to support her teammates. She’s highly coachable during drills and brings a positive attitude to every practice. She’s a model teammate and player!
Boys Cross-Country: Gus Mallory ’26
DOTW for cross country is Gus Mallory. Huge mileage over the summer, a positive attitude at practice, and strong early results have set him up for a potentially great season.
Girls Varsity Soccer: Eleanor DuPont ’26
The girls varsity soccer team recognizes Eleanor duPont as their Door of the Week. Eleanor has kicked off the fall 2024 season with preparedness and strength. Clearly, she put in a lot of work this summer to her training and it is paying off on the field. Eleanor’s confidence and strength to take players on 1v1 has contributed to the Big Green offense in practice and in our first game against Brooks. Eleanor’s work rate, attacking mentality and positivity have been awesome to watch and we can’t wait to see what the season brings for Eleanor and the Big Green! Keep up the great work!
Boys Jr. B Soccer: Jack Keller ’26 and Cole Higgins ’26
The Quad Squad doors of the week are Jack Keller and Cole Higgins. Jack and Cole are returning members to the team and bring with them skill, leadership, and a clear understanding of our team’s philosophy and culture. They were named the Quad Squad captains for the 2024 season and will have a huge impact on our team both on and off the field.
JV Volleyball: Devon Coleman ‘25
Devon has shown her leadership capacity already during the first weeks of the season. The team looks to her to lead them in warm ups and exercises and cheers and she is often called upon to demonstrate skills in practice. She has done all of this without holding any title or being asked by coaches. It is fitting and well-deserved that she was voted one of the three captains this week.
