Varsity baseball opened their 2019 season with a walk off win over visiting Belmont Hill (ranked #3 in the New England Baseball Journal). The Big Green scored three runs in their last at bat to secure the 4-3 victory.
The bottom of the seventh inning was highlighted by senior co-captain Javy Irizarry’s at bat; with 2 outs, Javy’s bat connected with the pitch to score a two-run single to tie the game at three-all. Later that inning, senior Matt Shea scored the winning run on a wild pitch to cap an exciting victory!
Henry Gustavson ’20 pitched four innings and David Thomas ’20 pitched the final three innings to earn the win for the Big Green.
Last year, the Big Green fell Belmont Hill in their season opener, 4-14.
The Doors will return to action this Wednesday at home against Loomis. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm.
