Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to this week’s Athletes of the Week!

Boys Thirds Squash: Sam Bronckers ‘20

Sam’s victory at line 3 against Suffield’s JV team clinched our eighth victory of the season – against a quick and skilled opponent, he battled back from a 2-1 deficit to win his match in five games. Sam has yet to lose a match in his DA squash career, and he has earned the right to practice with the JV team for the remainder of the season. We thank him for his hard work and wish him the best.

Girls Varsity Hockey: Mae Emerson ‘19

GV Hockey’s Athlete of the Week is Mae Emerson. Mae really stepped up her game this week, working hard all over the ice and getting pucks to the net. Though she didn’t get on the scoreboard in our 6-0 win against Pomfret, she generated lots of good opportunities for her teammates. Against, Andover, not only was Mae strong on the penalty kill, but she scored a beautiful goal on the power play. Furthermore, Mae pulled double duty this week, dancing beautifully in the Dance Showcase, and even choreographing a piece that included several of her teammates.

Girls JV Hockey: Juliet Perry

JV girls hockey ATOW is Juliet Perry.  Juliet absolutely made the difference for our team this week as we faced our two most competitive opponents of the season.  Juliet knows how to step up the speed of play when necessary, control the puck and make the clutch goals.  She is the backbone of our defense but also knows when to effectively contribute to our offensive attack.  Juliet is also a solid teammate, often setting a great model for sportsmanship and hard effort.  Juliet is always calm and collected on the ice and brings up our game to a new level whenever she is out there giving it her all.  Congrats, Juliet.

Girls Varsity Basketball: Tess Mannix

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball Athlete of the Week is sophomore guard, Tess Mannix. In a big conference win over Hotchkiss, Tess played an incredibly well-rounded game, scoring 7 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and tallying 3 steals. Her balanced play helped to lead Deerfield on both ends of the floor on Saturday. We look forward to more strong play from Tess for the remainder of the season!

JV Swimming: Doris Zhang

Captain Doris Zhang balances a rigorous academic schedule with participation in Model UN.  In the pool she often leads her lane in distance swimming and is a consistent performer. Willing to swim any event she is asked to do, Doris’ positive attitude and hard work make her a leader on the team.
