Alex Killorn ’08 Wins Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay Lightning

Former Deerfield men’s ice hockey standout Alex Killorn ’08 raised the Stanley Cup for the first time in his career, as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Dallas Stars, 2-0 in game six of the  2020 Stanley Cup Finals.

Killorn is in his eighth NHL season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team that drafted him in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and this year’s Stanley Cup Championship marks the second in Killorn’s career.

Prior to the suspension of the NHL regular season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Killorn was enjoying his most successful professional season; amassing 49 points (26 goals, 23 assists) in 68 games. In this year’s postseason play, Killorn recorded 10 points (five goals, five assists) and served as the team’s alternate captain.

Despite the pandemic suspending the NHL’s regular season, Killorn continued to make an impact off the ice. Killorn developed his own merchandise line and hosted Dock Talk interviews with 100% of the profit from these personal initiatives being donated to the Hillsborough Education Foundation. As of early July, Joe Smith a writer for The Athletic reported that over $50K had been donated to the Hillsborough Education Foundation.

Prior to his NHL career, Killorn was a First Team All-American and First Team All-ECAC Hockey selection for Harvard. During his career with the Crimson, Killorn recorded 109 points (53 goals, 56 assists) in 130 games.

A two-year standout at Deerfield, Killorn captured the attention and awe of his teammates and opponents alike. In his senior season, he helped the team post a 16-7-2 record and recorded a team-leading 55 points (28 goals, 27 assists) in 25 games. He was named to the All-NEPSAC team. Furthermore in his senior campaign, he ranked third amongst all NEPSAC players in points per game (2.20) and was tied for fifth in points.

Killorn became the second Big Green student-athlete in recent history to be crowned Stanley Cup Champion, joining fellow alumni, Ben Lovejoy ’03, who raised the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburg Penguins in 2009 and 2016.

Congratulations Alex and the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning on winning the Stanley Cup!

Go Big Green!
