Coach Jan (pronounced “yawn”) is an avid athlete and coach, promoting the notion of playing any game you can, anywhere and all the time. He played three sports at Bowdoin College – soccer, ice hockey and lacrosse – served three seasons as a captain, and probably considers his passion for tennis equal to that of the other sports. Coach Jan has a B license from the US Soccer Association, and an Advanced National Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches Association. Coach Jan has coached soccer at many schools, including Deerfield Academy and the University of Chicago, and at many clubs, including his favorite international club, MŠK Žilina, a small club in central Slovakia with a huge impact on European soccer. Jan is the head coach of the Slovak National Lacrosse team, and a former player for that team. Coach Jan serves Deerfield Academy as a teacher in the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department, the Dean of Spiritual Life, the boys varsity soccer head coach, and as the assistant coach for varsity boys lacrosse.
