France #8: A Weekend in Arles

Eliza ’27, recounts a busy weekend with her homestay family.

This was our second weekend here and it was full of excitement. On the weekends we are with our families for the whole time so everyone does something different. On Friday with my family, we went shopping for the dad’s birthday and then went out for sushi. We then drove back into Arles and stopped by the Arles A La Carte celebration for the students from Chicago, who left on Saturday. While the parents were talking to others, I talked to two girls about what they did here and why they went on this trip. Friday was a late night so by the time we got home everyone was exhausted so we went right to bed. On Saturday morning, the two little boys in my family had horseback riding. However, when we got there the staff told us that they were tired from the day before so we brushed them, showered them, and walked them around an obstacle course. After horseback riding, my family and I drove 30 minutes to a town called Nimes. We got delicious lunch and walked around a park where I learned a lot about the Roman history. The mom was going to Paris for the weekend for her friend’s birthday so we had to drop her off at the train station. Then we went to a skatepark where the boys rode their scooters. When we got home we had dinner which was pasta with different toppings. After dinner, the dad and I played a game while the boys watched a movie. Sunday was more relaxing. In the morning, we ate breakfast, did laundry, and played a board game. Then for lunch the dad made lamb with shallots. After lunch, we went on a bike ride before picking the mom up at the train station. Before dinner, we worked on a puzzle that we are going to try to finish before I leave. Finally, we enjoyed dinner, and ended the night with a game. It was a very fun weekend in Arles!
