Trip leaders Kris Loftus and Erin Hutchinson share the highlights from their travel day to the DR!
Saturday June 2 was our arrival day in the DR. After an early morning wake up and a non-eventful flight from JFK, we walked out of the Santo Domingo airport to be greeted by Jose of Cambiando Vidas and generous sunshine and heat. Our bus ride from Santo Domingo to San Juan provided some breathtaking moments in traffic, incredible vistas and the perfect Spotify playlist that kept us all singing for hours. A stop at the beach, for lunch (local chicken and fish with fried plantains) and a swim, before finally reaching our San Juan destination our hotel.
The highlight of the day was meeting our family (Andres Mateo and his sons) over a delicious burrito dinner. Back to the hotel at 10:30 pm, and we don’t think any of us were awake long after our heads hit the pillow. Excited to start building tomorrow with this amazing team of Deerfield students!
