Late afternoon on Monday, the Dominican Republic group began their journey to New York’s JFK Airport to begin their trip! For the next couple of days, 14 students and three faculty trip leaders, Sheryl Koyama, Nina Otterson, and Issalin Lopez, will build a house for a family in the village of Lavapie with the organization Cambiando Vidas. When work begins, the house will be one cinderblock high. On day five, the house will be finished — complete with running water and electricity.
We look forward to reading student reflections through the Notes from The Field blog in the coming days!
