DA Speech and Debate Wins the Day

On Sunday, Deerfield Speech and Debate traveled to Buckingham Browne and Nichols for a day of parliamentary debating and impromptu speaking. After four rounds, Deerfield speakers came out on top, with Thomas Harrick ‘23, Justin Ahn ‘24, Billy Tang ‘25, and Avery Zakowich ‘25 taking 2nd place with their four-person team; Thomas and Justin won first place pair.

Thomas capped a stellar performance with a 1st-place finish in impromptu. He won the whole day by taking the prize for top speaker overall, an award that means he’ll join Lily Pierce ‘25 on Team USA at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships in Durban, South Africa this April!
