Avery ’25 participated in an internship with the Yale Child Study Center in New Haven, CT.
This summer I had the opportunity to serve as a neuroscience research assistant at the Yale Child Study Center. Over the 6-week course of my internship, I got first-hand experience, learning how to administer IQ tests, how IRB protocols are written, shadowing the lab manager, getting MRI and fMRI certifications, completing HIPAA training, crafting Excel formulas to interpret data, lead a journal discussion, and co-leading a literature review project. Witnessing the process of conducting high-level research solidified my desire to pursue degrees in psychology and neuroscience in college. While my colleagues were either pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees, and thus had apartments in New Haven, I commuted daily, so I used funding to cover these transportation costs. Overall, this internship was an exceptional opportunity that offered a window into collegiate research and connected me with passionate students who shared my enthusiasm and love for pediatric neuroscience.
