Investing in the Art of Hingham’s Local Youth

Kingsley ’25, looks to inspire “local elementary school students to learn about the history of their town and explore the visual arts.”

Goal: My project is really focused on inspiring the local elementary school students to learn about the history of their town and explore the visual arts. History, especially the history of Hingham, has been crucial to building my passion for the subject.

Challenges: One challenge that I have faced is communication with the students participating in the project. There was a time crunch because I needed to promote the competition while the students were still at school so that I could collect the work. I found it super hard to promote the project while away at school in the Spring. I needed to be very active with Mrs. Rollins while trying to take final exams and it was very difficult.

Needs: For the next steps, I need to choose the winners, mail out the prizes, and print the works. I reached out to a local printing and stationery shop in downtown Hingham. I am having a bit of trouble trying to connect with this shop, but it is really important to me to support the local businesses in my town rather than order the thank you cards online. I also need to gain access to a school directory to find students addresses for mailing out prizes. I am going to write and print three congratulations letters with the gift cards attached and mail out the prizes within the next month. I also reached back out to the Historical Society and let them know of the progress of my project. I also have painted two small works that I will print alongside the students’ works.
