Chijioke Achebe ’21, shares his passion for service and nature with the community.

Over the break, I completed my Eagle Scout service project with some assistance from the CSGC Micro-Grant program. I would like to thank the CSGC and the Workman family for supporting community service here at Deerfield. We built and placed eight bridges at Becker Park, a county park/forest in Roseland, NJ. I was responsible for the overall execution and direction of the project. I was grateful to have friends and other members of the troop pitch in; these bridges get pretty heavy, and the forest gets hard to navigate with all the snow that was on the ground. But it was a lot of fun.

What I am proudest of is that this project will make it easier to get around the park, allowing more people to get outside and enjoy nature right in their backyards. The air up in the park is so fresh, I think everyone should have a chance to breathe it in.
