With generous support from a Deerfield donor, we are delighted to once again offer a Faculty Professional Development trip to China in June 2024.
Under the umbrella of the Faculty Summer Institutes, this fully-funded professional development program will allow faculty to experience the diversity and complexity of China as they consider the theme of “Tradition and Innovation.”
While the itinerary is still being finalized, our current plan is to visit the following four cities: Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Wuhan, and Beijing. In each location we will visit sites, meet with experts, and immerse ourselves in the theme of the program as we explore traditions and innovations in technology and business, arts and culture, and education. From some of the newest innovations in business in Hong Kong to the history and wonder of the Great Wall in Beijing, and from art museums to local schools, faculty will have unique access to a range of experiences as they travel together and come to better understand the complexity of tradition and innovation in China. As the trip concludes, faculty will consider how they might integrate their learning back into their work at Deerfield as we reflect upon tradition and innovation in our own professional context.
We are excited to have our faculty gain new perspectives and knowledge to enrich their professional life at DA, build new connections and bonds with each other on the trip, and connect directly with Deerfield community members in Hong Kong and mainland China.
The trip will run from approximately 16 days from June 15 to July 1.
