Winter Season Varsity Team Preview

Boys Varsity Basketball

The boys varsity basketball team will begin their 2016-2017 campaign with only a few practices under their belt as they open their season today, Wednesday, 11/30 as they take on Nobles at home. The team returns a nucleus of starting players and will be led by senior captain, Jackson Mannix ‘17.

Girls Varsity Basketball

Also, with a short preseason to prepare for their upcoming season, the girls varsity basketball team will begin their season on the road at Williams College today, Wednesday, 11/30. The team returns home for their first home game on Monday, 12/5 versus neighboring Frontier High School. The team will be led with tri captains Lily Fauver ’17, Felicia Renelus ’17, and Megan Graves ’18.

Boys Varsity Hockey

The boys varsity hockey team with new head coach, Tim McVaugh, travelled to upstate NY for their pre-season hockey trip. The team practiced and played green vs. white scrimmages in preparation for their upcoming season. Captains, Justin Marler ’17 and Wiggle Kerbrat ’17 will lead the Big Green in their season opener this Saturday, 12/3 on the road when they take to the ice against Groton School.

Girls Varsity Hockey

Pre-season practices are in full swing for the girls varsity hockey team. The girls will open their 2016-2017 season on the road at St. Mark’s this Saturday, 12/3. The team will be led by senior tri-captains, Meghan Halloran ’17, Jenna Greenbaum ’17, and Libby Werners ’17.

Alpine Skiing

The alpine ski team is crossing their fingers for snow in the weather forecast so they can hit the slopes to begin the 2016-2017 season. The teams anticipate beginning their season with their first race on Wednesday, 1/11 at their home course at Berkshire East. The boys will look to defend their 2015-2016 season New England championship title and the girls welcome co-head coach, Emma Coffin who was promoted after serving as an assistant coach for the team last season. Emma will partner with co-head coach Marc Dancer to lead the team. The Sarachek brothers, Sevrin ’17 and Griffin ‘17, will captain the boys team and the girls will be captained by Alaina Chen ’17 and Mia Cuda ‘17.

Boys Varsity Squash

The boys varsity squash team will look a little different this season than last, as last year’s team graduated 4 players which comprises half of the team. The team will be led by senior tri-captains, Robby Dewey ’17, Danny Finnegan ’17 and John Sawyers ’17. The first matches of the 2016-2017 will be at home this Saturday, 12/3 versus Hotchkiss.

Girls Varsity Squash

The girls varsity squash team returns to the courts for the 2016-2017 season this Saturday, 12/3 away at Hotchkiss. The 2016-2017 team will look very similar to the 2015-2016, 3rd place New England Championship team, as only 1 senior graduated from last year’s roster. This year’s team will be led by senior captains, Maddie Chai ’17 and Mimi deLisser ’17.

Boys Varsity Swimming & Diving

The boys varsity swimming and diving team returns to Koch pool as the 2015-2016 New England Championship runner ups and they welcome new assistant coach, Sean Clark and Mark Spencer will serve as the team’s head coach for the season. Senior captains, Bobby Meyer ’17 and Will Hrabchak ’17 will look to lead the team to another New England podium finish this season. Their 2016-2017 splashes off this Saturday, 12/3 at home versus Milton Academy.

Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving

The defending New England Champions have already begun their preparation in the pool to defend their 2015-2016 season title. With a week of practice ahead, the girls will begin their campaign this Saturday, 12/3 as they take on Milton Academy in the Koch Pool.  Four senior captains, Rhyan Brode, Ellie Koschik, Madisen Siegel, and Ellie Uhl, will look to help guide the team back to the podium this season.

Varsity Wrestling

The varsity wrestling team is excited to return to the mats for their 2016-2017. The 2015-2016 season was a successful campaign as the team finished in the top 10 at the New England Championship and 3 athletes qualified for the National Championship. The team will begin the 2016-2017 season on Saturday, 12/10 at home. The team returns several veteran wrestlers, including senior tri-captains, Griffin Thomas ’17, Brandon Scott ’17 and Mohamed Kadry ’17.
