Varsity Field Hockey Defeats Loomis in OT

On a beautiful fall parents’ weekend, Deerfield had an exciting OT victory over Loomis Chaffee to end with a score of 2-1. Both teams came to the turf ready to play hard, and the momentum wavered back and forth for the duration of the game. About 5 minutes into the game, Ali Fujiyoshi ’19 netted a beautiful goal which came from never lifting her stick up off of the turf. Leading into halftime 1-0, Deerfield felt confident about their performance in the first half and were ready to keep the momentum moving forward through the second half. Although Deerfield continued to put on the pressure in Loomis’s defensive end, the Pelicans continued to push back until they were able to score with 3 minutes remaining in the game. Heading into overtime, Deerfield came out hard and caught Loomis on their heels. A few minutes into OT, Ali Fujiyoshi ’19 deflected another shot into the net from a beautiful drive from Meredith Heaney ’19 to win the game. Notable performances game from Ali Fujiyoshi in the midfield and Anya Shevzov-Zebrun ’17 on the forward line. The team looks forward to playing at Westminster School this Wednesday, October 19th.
