Deerfield’s Liam Holowesko ’18 logged many more miles on his bike this summer and continued his successful 2016 cycling campaign. This summer, Liam won the 2016 USA Cycling Amateur Road National Championship in Louisville, KY on June 30th, 2016 with a time of 27:46.78.
In July, Liam participated in the Tour of Ireland with his racing team, Hot Tubes. During the Tour, Liam finished fourth in the opening time trial which earned him the white jersey for the best young rider. Overall, Liam and his Hot Tubes teammates won two stages in the six stage race of the Tour of Ireland.
Liam continued his European tour this summer. He lived in Belgium through July and August while racing for the US National Junior team. The team won countless races and Liam won the 2016 Kerkom Kermis, a one-day circuit race in Belgium.
This past season Liam won the 2016 New England Class A Individual Cycling Championship for the second year in a row. In addition to his individual title, the Deerfield cycling team, including Alex Weinman ‘19, Julian O’Donnell ’18, and Max Geraci ‘19, won the 2016 New England Class A Team Cycling Championship.
“Liam was the first freshman to ever win the New England Championship and last season became the first sophomore to win the same honors. He is an incredible leader out on the road and his willingness to put in countless hours of training combined with his natural talent point to a potentially strong racing career. Most cyclists peak in their abilities in their late 20’s so we all look forward to watching Liam race in the US and Europe for many years to come!” said Deerfield cycling coach, Rich Calhoun.
In April, Liam won the 2016 USA Cycling Junior National Championship Criterium in Greenville, SC.
Congratulations, Liam!
