Girls Varsity Squash Returns to Home Courts to Defeat Westminster

In their first home match of 2019, the Big Green girls varsity squash team took on the Martlets of Westminster.  Missing six starters, DA recruited a couple JV players, Daly Baker and Talbot von Stade, to play #6 and #7, and both showed they have varsity talent and grit.  Daly showed great focus as she beat her opponent 3-0, and while Talbot needed a game to adjust to the new level, she caught on quickly and won 3-1.  #5 Katie Parker started strong with a 2-0 lead before the enervating demands of midterm week caught up with her as she lost in the fifth game.  The senior captains of the day, #4 Soo-Min Lee, #3 Sasha Hinckley and #2 Emily Henderson, modeled great leadership and sportsmanship as their veteran expertise led them to decisive victories.  #1 Sarah Stonestreet also showed her strategic expertise as she prevailed in a back and forth match, winning 11-7 in the fifth game.

The team improves their season record to 5-1. This Saturday, 1/26 the entire Deerfield squash program will travel to Concord, NH to face the Big Red of St. Paul’s before the varsity teams travel to Philadelphia for Nationals on February 1st.

Go Big Green!
