Girls Rowing Opens Season with a Win

The girls rowing team traveled to Pomfret, CT to open their 2019 season at the Pomfret School Quad on Quasset Lake in Woodstock, CT. Participating schools included Dexter Southfield, Groton, Pomfret and Taft. Deerfield’s 1V boat captured first place, the 3v boat finished second and the 2V and 4V boats each finished third to help the Big Green secure the victory in their opening races.

The defending New England champions 1V finished first with a 2.1 second lead over Groton. The 2V ended up third by less than 2 seconds after a solid battle with Taft all the way down the course. The 3V took second behind Groton with an impressive 12 second lead over Taft. And, the 4V, an entirely novice crew, finished third over Dexter Southfield and Pomfret.

Jumping ahead to a 1-0 record, the Big Green will return to action this Sunday, May 5 at the Founder’s Day Regatta on Lake Waramaug hosted by the Gunnery School. Races will begin at 9:00am.
